Cathouse rock in Joshua Tree National Park. Testing our mental strength on airy granite and 10mm ropes. This time we had a group of Germans out to explore what Germany does no have… Miles and miles and miles of beautiful desert. One Herman might think it is always hot in the desert… We had to find out quite the opposite. Nigh time temperature dropped down close to freezing and made for a mind opening experience.
Great day at Mission Trails… We had to the pleasure to climb all day and got on some pretty classic entry level lines. Here on "the ramp" most likely the best 5.7 that the "Gorge" has to offer… Beautiful day and no other climbers out!
Multi pitch climbing at El Cajon Mountain. Here @csaldarrr hanging out on the belay station of pitch number 1. We had a great day and it was Christian's first long climb. Our route "Leonids" goes at 5.9 and is a known classic for San Diego – for good reasons. Awesome positive features, superb rock quality, sustained climbing at its rating and comfortable belay stations midway route. To climb Leonids you gotta earn your way up there. Our approach included a stout 1 hour hike up to the base of the cliff. The main rock face is located high up near the 3675feet peak that is also known for an epic hiking destination. Many people in San Diego do not know about the beauty of this place and it was amazing to be up there on our own – overlooking the the urban structures of our metropole. What a great day!
Throwback to my first 5.12 properly send. This was in 2007 when I also did my first guiding trip in Turkey. We stayed at Josito camp in a little village named “Geyikbayiri” about a 30minutes drive away from the metropole Antalya. The name of the route is “Black Moon” and follows a steep overhanging black streak of limestone. Thanks for the photographer Andreas to capture this milestone in my climbing career.
@chefnickbrune taking another lap on a Mission Trails classic line named "Mission Control, 5.8". For many climbers in the county this is often their first lead climb. It is very safe – completely bolted with only two crux moves towards the top. Beautiful granite, a little slick here and there will teach you how to apply just the right amount of pressure on your toes.
Great weekend out climbing at mount Woodson on a @grottoclimbing field trip. We explored some sweet top rope climbs and laid down some crash pads… #chillinorockclimbing was happy to teach some rope skills such as belaying, tying in and basic anchoring. Such a great fun to bring our community together and explore our local rock playgrounds.@ntllrx @kepdep @boulderingjam @kmanderson9182 @gavcliff and more, thanks for coming out
On our way to Mount Woodson with the Grotto crew @grottoclimbing. It's a gorgeous day in SoCal ? and we are ready to put up some Top Ropes and lay down some pads.
@natyuralroots cannot stop smiling! It was her first time on natural rock and she literally rocked it. Many first timers believe that outdoor rock climbing is more difficult or harder… we were there to proof the opposite!! Nice low angle climbing on beautiful granite allowed us to rest up in the middle of the climb to prepare us for the next move. Easy peesy ;) come and find out! And it's much more beautiful outside anyways… There is something about the view, sun, birds, wind, nature… that never gets boring.
Sometimes you gotta reconsider your moves! Step back, reflect, get a different perspective… then try again ??? Never give up ?
Our local climbing areas are so full of beauty. Here Thomas with @blockout_nz enjoying an airy rappel off the "tower" that oversees the giant outcrop of Eagle Peak. There is multi pitch climbing up to 4-5 pitches on superb granite. Nearby 3 sisters waterfall attracts many local people to the are. However, not many make it out to te cliff which is only a decent 45min hike from the parking! A beautiful day with awesome people here in San Diego
