Climbing the "red obelisk" in Joshua tree national park. I tree is well known for obscure and beautiful looking rock formations screaming to be climbed. This one is certainly one of them. A short but sweet 5.10a will get you to the top of this one. Protected by three or four bolts – this one provides a little bit of a summit feeling. Go find out yourself! Wonderland of rocks
Sea of granite! Yosemite valley Half Dome. If you decide not to free climb this route you will end up on the "Robbins traverse". A bolt ladder where you have to pull yourself up from bolt to bolt. By doing this you avoid climbing four more pitches up and down on loose rock or climbing a 5.10d(R) into a 5.12b traverse. Going for a quick ascent on this one there was no doubt to take the bolt ladder. Here, Mike Donaldson following up to the belay ledge ready to bust out 14 or so more pitches.#yosemite #halfdome #robbinstraverse #tradclimbing #rockclimbing #climbing #rock #thevalley #crackclimbing #longdays #halfdomeinaday #multipitchclimbing #klettern #grimper #escalade #chillino #guiding
"The Arsonist (5.11+)" in Tuolumne Meadows. This route goes up the north side of the infamous "Fairview Dome" in the high country of Yosemite National Park. Put up in 2012 by Bob Jensen and Erik Anderson. This 6 pitch route got all the qualities of a great, hard and sustained trad route! Mostly slab climbing with occasional cracks and corner systems. Here, starting pitch 2 one year later after the first ascent – teaming up with @erikandersondobro to snag ascent number 2,3 or 4. I hope this route gets more attention in the future as it truly has classic status. #tuolumnemeadows #rockclimbing #yosemite #grimper #nationalpark #thearsonist #slabclimbing #multipitch
"Thank God" there is a ledge! High up on half dome there is the infamous "thank god ledge". This is not your every day walk in the park. You can crawl along it or even better stand up lean with your back into the wall and start walking… 2000 feet of air below you will take care of pure excitement. My partner and I climbed the regular northwest face of Halfdome in a little under 11 hours which totally matched with our expectations. The beauty is that there is room for a more cleaner ascent than this. We got off route twice – just for a short moment – we needed to take a bathroom stop and we could have handled cleaner transitions at the belay stations. But who cares when it is really about the fun and the enjoyment of climbing such a classic traditional route with such an exciting first ascent history! This is certainly one of the better routes I have climbed in the past 20 years. I can't wait for more adventures and I want to encourage everybody to follow their dreams and do what feels right… Thank god for climbing ;)
Rock climbing at 75. Stanley is still cranking and now getting ready for a summer trip to Switzerland. His goal is to climb Matterhorn in the Alps. Mission Trails is not quite like Matterhorn! However, it is still a great place to practice your movement skill and find out how it feels to pick giant mountain boots over rock climbing shoes… Here Stanley earning himself some extra style points! My respect for still going so strong. Matterhorn is waiting!
Room for exploration! This place is located south of the border. Hundreds of unclimbed lines are waiting to be explored. A 2.5hours drive away from San Diego… there is climbing as adventurous as it can get. No guidebook, miles of untouched land and granite, steep canyons and chaparral for days and days. Where's your line? Ready for the next adventure#firstascent #explore #mexico #bajacalifornia #rockclimbing #klettern #climbing #climbing_pictures_of_instagram

Germany sandstone… This one is a unique form of sandstone rock in Germany's low mountain range "Eifel". The town of "Nideggen" has a collection of numerous sandstone cliffs that have a high concentration of river rocks baked into the sandstone. Since many of the climbing sections are made up of more river rocks than actually sandstone – the look and style of climbing is unique. Germany's rock climbing icon "Wolfgang Güllich" in his earlier career once visited "Nideggen" and he compared the rock to climbing a vertical potato field ("vertikaler Kartoffelacker"). That description seems to be just right. Here on some good summer times Germany with first time rock climbers Peter, Thomas and Klemens. Lead climbing in Joshua Tree National Park. This one is called "girdle crossing (5.10d). It is located in the "wonderland of rocks" area on the iconic formation named "freakdome brothers" – 3 with each other connected domes that stick out the beautiful desert landscape. Girdle crossing partially uses bolts of a more famous route called "I can't believe it's a girdle (5.10a). This one is unique in its appearance as it traverses for 3 long pitches along a "Dike" from left to right. Foot intense smearing along the rim of the roof is much characteristic for climbing in Joshua Tree. Season is almost over but this coming weekend we will still have great temps in the lower 70's. Get your climb on and see you out there.
